One thing we see a lot of when we go out into classrooms is that people wonder why a particular website is so slow. Well, there can be lots of reasons for that, but a common reason is that people are keeping way too many tabs open in their browsers. Whether you use Chrome or Firefox, keep it to just the tabs you need. And remember, its a netbook, not a supercomputer. Dont run three applications at once, either! Video Production by TL Farzin.

When someone visits your website, you can easily retrieve information about the charge level of their mobile or laptops battery through the Battery Status API. Here the source code: <!DOCTYPE html> <html> <head> <title>Battery Status API Example</title> <script> window.onload = function () { function updateBatteryStatus(battery) { document.querySelector(#charging).textContent = battery.charging ? charging : not charging; document.querySelector(#level).textContent = battery.level; document.querySelector(#dischargingTime).textContent = battery.dischargingTime / 60; } navigator.getBattery().then(function(battery) { // Update the battery status initially when the promise resolves ... updateBatteryStatus(battery); // .. and for any subsequent updates. battery.onchargingchange = function () { updateBatteryStatus(battery); }; battery.onlevelchange = function () { updateBatteryStatus(battery); }; battery.ondischargingtimechange = funct...

While browsing the web for medical devices that appear to run on Windows operating systems, I came across the Baxa ExactaMix Compounder. One could use a compounder for parenteral nutrition. These devices do run a "Microsoft Operating System" according to Baxa. Interestingly, the product page contains a link to a Baxa-authored whitepaper titled Preventing Cyber Attacks (PDF). At first glance, I was pleased to see that Baxa actually offers guidance on this issue, but the content of the whitepaper raises alarms. This excerpt in particular is unsettling (my emphasis added): FDA regulations require manufacturers to Validate all changes, updates, and patches, including operating systems, before installing them to ensure the safety and effectiveness of the medical devices.1  Baxa ExactaMix Compounders have been verified and validated only with the software that was installed by Baxa. Thus, any changes to the original, validated image, including installation of antivirus software, ...

A competitive, fast pace, strategic deck builder, which combines map construction, hero and area control and unique calendar mechanics. BATTALIA: The Creation is a medium weight strategy game for 2-4 players, ages 13 and up. An expansion for up to 6 players is on our schedule, but for now lets focus on the basics: the game combines the mechanics of map construction, deck building, hero and area control and unique calendar mechanics. In the base game, you will buy useful artefacts and hire battle units to support your armies, you will build roads and cities and send your heroes to battle - you will have to find the most powerful mixture of all these assets and apply them at the right moment, so you could claim to be the rightful ruler of Battalia and win the game. A victory can be obtained through aggressive conquest or a peaceful development of your own city system (if you are lucky and the others let yo...

Now whenever i am using windows I usually keep myself signed into GTalk, as GTalk has this nice feature of showing a small notification window whenever new email comes into your inbox. However even though Google has been porting a number of their programs from Windows to Linux platform till now they have not ported GTalk on the Linux platform . Now since i spend significant amount of my time on the Linux platform i had to keep my GMail account always open in the browser and keep refreshing it periodically to check for any new mail this was frustrating as well as tiresome till i discovered this nifty little application CheckGmail. CheckGmail basically stays in your taskbar and whenever any new email comes it shows a small window informing you about it and clicking on the window actually opens the browser and takes you to the email.
